Shannon's first parking attempt at Bunnings.

As soon as the floods hit Brisbane and Toowoomba we knew that veges would be at a premium price within a few weeks. We planted some lettuces and they are looking beautiful like this one.

Whenever I have a bit of ginger that gets a bit old and wrinkly, I plant it on my front verandah and in a couple of months we have fresh juicy ginger growing.

I lost the battle to save my bok choy to these caterpillars yesterday despite me going out morning and night to pick them off. Tried my chilli/garlic spray against them ... they are tough. They don't survive my gumboot though!

Rather large visiting cicada. Why do they want to stay inside?

Here was my Australia Day breakfast :(

My youngest daughter, Shannon takes pride in covering all of her school books herself. She's in Year 12 now and still not sick of doing it. This year she covered her books with original art she created herself.

Must have been a dodgy egg, because these cupcakes are flat. Doesn't discourage the family, they are eating them anyway. I did actually need them for an afternoon tea I am attending, so I'm currently working on Plan B.

My harvest for the day, garlic and some shallots. This is a nice reward for a few hours in the garden today. What shall I make for dinner?

The heart-breaking clean-up process begins. This is the remains of the inside of our friend's house. All plaster, kitchen cupboards, bathroom, skirtings, blinds, curtains, floor coverings are out on the footpath ready for collection and transport to landfill. Judging by what we saw in the small area we worked at, there will need to be a landfill area the size of a whole suburb to cater for this mess.

Salvation Saturday - heading to flood area to clean up friend's house.

Hopped in the Hilux after it had not been used for about two weeks and we were astonished to see mould growing on everything, even the steering wheel.

12/365

Area at the back of our house which is now a lake full of croaking frogs.

Here's the view from under my umbrella watching the Ironman event at Noosa Heads on the weekend.

9/365

A glass ceiling area over a little street in Brisbane where we had a scrumptious lunch.

8/365

Shannon was fascinated with this typewriter set up in Borders book store. I felt like an old dinosaur explaining all of the component parts and how it worked.
